About ZWC
The Zero
Waste Communities of San Bernardino County is
made up of 16 cities/townships (see map below) and the County
of San Bernardino. They have partnered to educate their residents
and businesses
on waste reduction, reuse, and recycling. Reducing waste
will prolong the life of our landfill, ensuring a better
quality of life.
The
group was originally formed when the county made Waste Delivery/Disposal
Agreements (WDAs) with 15 cities
to direct their
haulers to take their trash to San Bernardino County landfill sites.
The county then decided to provide funding for an outreach/education
program for those cities with WDA agreements. The members formed
a committee, then called the WDA committee.
Since
the "Waste Delivery/Disposal Agreement Committee" name was hard
to explain to the general public, the group later came up
with the Zero Waste Communities name, which was later expanded
to include "of San Bernardino County".
