Helpful Hints
Everyone can do their part to minimize waste. The
three "R"s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle are the basis for conservation
measures. More specifically, here are some things to consider.
Recycle!
There
are many places to recycle materials in most areas. Some places
only take back a few items, while others take a wide
variety of materials. For listings of recycling facilities,
see the on-line Reuse and Recycling Guide by clicking
here.
Reduce
Junk Mail
Do
you open your mailbox each day to find it stuffed
full of unsolicited mail, catalogs, credit card applications,
and advertisements for a variety of products and
services? There are tons of junk mail wastes created
everyday. The best way to reduce junk mail
is to stop it at the source. Taking some time
now to make a few telephone calls or write a note
will save you a lot of time sorting through your
daily mail, along with reducing the amount of junk
mail that has to be recycled or disposed of.

Build Green
A
green building, also known as a sustainable building, is a
structure that is designed, built, renovated, operated, or
reused in an ecological and resource-efficient manner. Green
buildings are designed to meet certain objectives such as protecting
occupant health; improving employee productivity; using energy,
water, and other resources more efficiently; and reducing the
overall impact to the environment. For
more information, go to the California
Integrated Waste Management Board's web page on Green Building
Basics.

Recycle Plastic Grocery Bags
If you answer "Plastic, please" when your grocery clerk asks "Paper
or Plastic?", remember to recycle the bags when you are through
with them. If your city does not accept the bags in your recycling
bin, many grocery stores have places you can deposit them for
recycling. For more details and information on where to recycle
your plastic grocery bags, visit PlasticBagRecycling.org.
