San
Bernardino County Materials Exchange Program,
or SBCountyMax is a partnership between San Bernardino County
and the California
Integrated Waste Management Board. Modeled after the states CalMax,
the program provides a place for entities to provide used, but
usable materials to those interested in obtaining them. The program
helps divert used materials from the
landfill, and thereby extends the lifespan of our landfills.
The program helps groups not only save resources, but money
as well.
City
of Rialto's Used Cell Phone Recycling Program collects
used cell phones to raise money to buy
phone cards and satellite phones for our military personnel
overseas. Rialto has signed up
to be an official drop-off center for Cell Phones For Soldiers.
For more information on this group, see www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com.
The
Town of Apple Valley participates
in the Reuse-A-Shoe Program. The Program
is coordinated by the National Recycling Coalition
(NRC) and Nike to recycle
and
grind athletic footwear to turn them into sports surfaces.
Under the partnership, NRC provides technical assistance
to Apple Valley, while
Nike manages the logistics of picking up shoes from each
of the recycling centers.
